Many thanks for check logs received from DL1EMY, G7D, PA3ARM and SO7NA
1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2024
Like last year, this event failed to ignite widespread interest with 83 entries received, one more than last year. Whilst a further 172 stations appeared in the logs, the only DX stations were from Canada (1 station) and the USA (5 stations). Over half of the remainder were in The Netherlands (65) and Germany (21).
There were several suggestions in the soapboxes as to how the popularity of this event might be improved so please look out for a consultation before the rules for 2025 are finalised.
Having said all this, the standard of operating was high with 30 logs having an error rate of 0% despite the usual high noise level.
As always, it was also extremely competitive particularly at the top of the tables. 5 of the top 3 stations in each of the UK sections have been previous winners of the Somerset Trophy (awarded to the leading UK station in either category) and, on this occasion, Graham, G4FNL triumphed for the first time since 2016. Dave M7W (G3TBK), last year's winner, finished in second place, just three points behind. Both submitted error free logs as did the third placed entrant in the Assisted category Don, G5W (G3BJ).
In the UK Unassisted category, once again all three podium places went to members of the HF Contest Committee with last year's third placed entrant Allan, GM4ZUK coming out on top.
Congratulations to all certificate winners, and thanks to the four check logs.
Graham Coomber G0NBI
