6th 80m CC Data Contest & Overall Results

The sixth and final run of the 80m CC Data contest proved as popular an event as ever with 157 logs received. Propagation was good for Inter-G although it was good for longer distances too as the entry from YL demonstrates.

I thank Andy Cook - G4PIQ for providing me with the SDR recording of the contest as this once more assisted me in resolving the issues surrounding mode errors that the adjudication software cannot resolve by itself. I note that some entrants do rather skimp on their exchanges in the pursuit of speed. This can and does lead to decoding errors and the subsequent loss of points. In data contesting it is often worth sending the critical serial number twice just to be sure. Right first time saves a repeat and thus valuable time. The tortoise can win over the hare.

G6XX was once again on the air giving away those valuable five point QSOs. It was operated by David Wicks - G3YYD. Our thanks to David for putting the station on the air.

So to the results. With plenty of stations on the air and good inter-UK propagation, 10W was going well with G4PIQ running SO2R making the most of the conditions taking first place in 10W-Unassisted with 142 points. G4ENZ in the 100W-Assisted section and took first place with 143 points. G5Q once again placed first in 10W-Assisted, and finally the 100W-Unassisted saw G0ORY take first place with 109 points.

The 80m CC Series also attracts entrants from outside of the UK&CD and their efforts are recognised in the tables. In the 100W Assisted section PA2TA took first place whilst in the 100W Unassisted section DF1MM topped the podium. The 10W Unassisted section also attracted entrants and PC2F came in first.

As this is the final contest of the 80m CC series it is my pleasure to announce the overall winners.

The General Club section winner, receiving the Horace Freeman Trophy, is once again the Three A's CG with a fantastic score over second place De Montfort University ARS who were the 2020 winners.

The Local Club section winner, receiving the G5RV Memorial Shield, is the Norfolk ARC who had battled against the Bristol CG all the way.

The winner of the RSGB 80m Challenge Trophy (awarded to the Highest Scoring Individual UK&CD Entrant (all modes combined) - 100W or 10W Section) is Andy Cook, G4PIQ.

Turning now to the overall winners in the overseas section, DF1MM entering all 18 contests was the highest entrant placing between 39th and 40th in the table. It is worth noting that a total of 115 entries were received across all 18 contests. I would like to extend the thanks of not only the contest committee but also all UK&CD entrants for the enthusiasm and participation of all overseas amateurs in the series for the diversity it brings.

That is all for this year and the contest committee would like to thank all participants and hope that you all enjoyed the series. All that is left to do it to remind you that the fun continues with the three month long 80m Autumn series.
