144 MHz AFS Contest 2023

This year's running of the event received fewer entries than normal comprising 20 in the Open Section, including 11 portable stations, (10-year average of 29) and 96 in the Single Operator Fixed (10- year average of 111).  The weather may well have contributed to the former with several reports of snow and rain affecting performance and enjoyment.  Indeed, admiration was expressed for those who ventured out, nevertheless.

The contribution from DXCCs outside of the UK was largely confined to France with 53 French callsigns appearing in the logs.  Indeed, F6DKW provide the best ODX of the competition for the Single Operator Fixed Section winner GD8EXI at a distance of 762 km.

Congratulations to all the winners and a special 'well done' to the Camb-Hams who won the G3MEH trophy (awarded to the highest placed Affiliated Society) for the eighth year in a row.

The next event in the AFS competition is the 80-40m CW contest on Saturday 6th January 2024 commencing at 1300 UTC.

With every good wish for Christmas and the New Year.
