SUPPLEMENTARY 2015 WHITE PAPER (by Quin G3WRR)
Following the 22nd July Presidential Review meeting (the output of which is available here, as reported in last month's Newsletter) a Supplementary White Paper is to be issued (indeed by the time you read this, it may already have
been issued.....this will be notified via the UK contest reflectors). The Supplementary White Paper will address two topics:
* use of MGM in VHF contests
* possible alternatives to M5/M7 multiplier schemes.
In order to allow responses to be analysed, decisions made, and the outcome promulgated via for the 2016 rules, responses by 23:59 on 25th
September are sought.
NEW APPOINTMENTS TO THE CONTEST COMMITTEE (by Ian G0FCT)
One of the recommendations of the President's Review was that two new posts (HF Representative and VHF Representative) be created on
the Contest Committee to look after the broader strategic issues surrounding HF and V/UHF contests. The people filling these posts would
be responsible for leading the development of ideas and rules for existing and new contests, for setting the objectives for RSGB contests
and for recommending changes to the RSGB contest calendar if the contest objectives are not being met.
I am pleased to announce that Nick Totterdell G4FAL and Andy Cook G4PIQ have agreed to join the Contest Committee as the HF Representative
and VHF Representative respectively.
ENTRIES FOR NEW 6H CATEGORY IN IARU VHF CONTESTS (by Quin G3WRR)
Entrants in IARU VHF contests will probably be aware that a new category, 6H, has been introduced. In connection with this, the CC Chairman
has received an e-mail from the Chairman of the IARU Region 1 C5 Committee. As its contents may affect UK entrants in the new category,
the e-mail is repeated verbatim below:
"Hello, Like you know we added a new category, 6H class, for the IARU VHF contests. The contest robot is ready for this and we tested it
during the July contest, in cooperation with the S5 contest robot. We did find a little problem: Some contesters who are contesting in the
6H class, are competing more than 6H but only send the logs with only the 6H. This is confusing for the robots, because the QSO’s out of the
6H are rejected for the stations who are working 24 hours. So please inform you members that they should be sending the complete log. We will
correct this during the upcoming meetings. Please inform you members who want to compete in the upcoming contests:
"Every participant that is planning to enter the 6H category MUST send his complete LOG even if he operated longer than 6 hours. Only first
6 active hours will be used for score evaluation, while the rest of the log (if at all) will be used for cross-check purposes".
73 and good luck
ON4AVJ
Chairman IARU-R1 C5 committee"
USE OF UBNs (by Pete G4CLA)
UBNs are made available to RSGB contest entrants so that they can see where they have made logging errors, and thereby
improve the accuracy of their operating / logging in future. However one of the VHF adjudicators has observed that few entrants seem
to be taking advantage of this opportunity. You are accordingly reminded that this facility exists, and encouraged to use it to
reduce points lost from your entries!
The e-mail sent out by the robot after log submission contains a link to all the UBNs for contests entered using that e-mail address. The
e-mail also contains the username and passcode needed for access. If entrants subscribe to the results e-mail when they enter a contest
(the default) then when the results are published they again receive an e-mail containing the link to all their UBNs as well as their
username and passcode. Further information on UBNs is available here.
FIELD DAY PICTURES - REPEAT REQUEST ! (by Quin G3WRR)
Last month's request for pictures from VHF and HF Field Days for inclusion in the forthcoming reports in Radcom has, without putting too fine a point
upon it, resulted in no response! Anyone with suitable pictures is asked to e-mail them to:
(VHF NFD) - g8iys@rsgbcc.org
(HF NFD) - g3wrr@rsgbcc.org.
Thank you!
That's all for this month - good contesting to you all!
