    1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2007

    The entry for this contest was 12% up on last year's. 78 logs and 4 check logs were received, all except one by e-mail. 

    In Section A (UK) the leader and winner of the Somerset Trophy, Clive Penna, GM3POI with 1141 was well clear of the runner-up, Fraser Robertson, G4BJM, who was 20 points ahead of Chris Burbanks, G3SJJ.  

    Conditions appeared to be excellent with the big guns logging many North American stations. Kenya (5Z4) was logged by GM3POI. 

    UK Entrants sho
    1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2005.uld note that if a PA station sends you a serial number e.g. PA0MIR, you should log it because, he will probably send his log to the RSGB..PA stations who do not send a serial number are participating in their own DX contest.  

    Section B (Overseas) was won, once again by Paul O'Kane, EI5DI. Gedas Lucinskas, LY3BA was second.  These two had error-free logs, which is commendable.  Third was Laimonis Stepans, YL2PQ.   

    Thank you all for taking part, I hope you enjoyed the contest and hope to receive your logs for the 2nd contest on 17 November 2007.

    Once again - a very enjoyable contest

    The 104ft doublet should not work on 160 but somehow it does, but not very well, felt lousy that night so gave up.

    SD worked ok but problems with WINKEY !

    Just a token entry.  A very poor antenna for this band.

    Lively contest with some interesting propagation. Same old problem with the district code NR as casual participants seem confused by the familiar shorthand.  Ah Well !

    Good conditions for a change.  Could not hear helf the DX stations the big guns were working but had great fun that was the main thing. Went to bed at  midnight as felt tired.

    Excellent start then everything went quiet after the first hour!  Worked everything I could hear

    Due to domestic duties only got on for a short time

    Different to say the least.  I wanted to give the K2 a good try-out but felt flu-like symptoms earlier in the evening. A decent meal accompanied by a nice Chablis provided the required medicine plus the additional concentration needed with the K2. I don't feel the skirt selectivity is as good as the MP with roofing filter and inrads.  Maybe as good down to -60db but I suspect much wider around -80. I also had the RIT set at too fast a speed and sometimes lost a station when I moved the knob too far.  Missed SO2Vm but reverted back to the old days of the TS930 and just kept switching VFOs.  Made most QSOs inthe first hour at 30 wpm using paddles. for me it is a comfort zone to use an external keyer in the "Stress" situation, eg different radio, environment etc. I used Ins/+/F keys later when I had settled down..Very satisfying though to be able to perform at that level with a radio that you have built yourself.

    Ran out of UK stuff to work...andof enthusiasm very soon after!. Can not call CQ on 160 from this QTh as horrendous noise level means I can't guarantee hearing callers - so I use S & P only.  I heard many other S & P stations that I could have worked easily.  The lesser guys should try to call CQ more often.

    Good to work lots with homebrew QRP all valve station!  Other ops very good at  winkling me out!  Conditions good EI5DIs SD great.!

    Plenty of activity  first two hours with continentals then gradually conditions became very quiet and turnover dropped alarmingly. As a regular user of Top Band I am always amazed at how signal strengths improve dramatically during the contests.

    Just a short token entry, was not going to participate but ended up with a few more QSOs than I intended.  Hard going on this band with QRP and a vertical.

    A brief entry this year because it was G3LLKs 74th birthday that night.

    This is my first topband contest in years. It was fun trying out the newly installed wire aerials at the local university site.

    Still say that this test is too long. It should finish at midnight I only picked up a small number after that time. Condx were not good very bad qrn from the rain, not one of the best ones of these I have done.. Always use SD its great.

    Good to see increaed USA takng part due to a reminder sent by a VE3 to the topband reflector. Best DX 4k;5Z4;5B4;PJ5;EA8;UN;UA9.

    Kept 2 versions of SD open to log both RSGB and PACC contacts so had to stay alert.  Cannot cope with the Uk scores of course as I can only work UK
