1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2010
The 2010 1st 1.8Mhz contest attracted 111 entrants, almost a 50/50
split between overseas and UK participants. Conditions were favourable
though less profitable for northern UK stations. GW3YDX managed to work
XU7ACY - the only UK station to do so. GU4YOX was the most
frequent UK station appearing in US logs. On the whole though DX was
lacking for this event.
This
event coincided with the PACC 160M contest which increased the number
of PA participants. This did lead to some confusion since PA stations
only sent their district codes and no serial numbers! Entrants are
reminded that the rules for RSGB contests is to log exactly what you
receive. If no serial is sent then enter either a hyphen
or '000'
and leave a note in the Soapbox comments. The contest adjudicator is
not the same as the log submission robot so is able to make reasoned
decisions.
Once again, the majority of logs were received by the RSGB HF Contest
Committee Robot entry system, greatly simplifying the adjudication
process and allowing a faster turn around of results.
An interesting turn of results with GW3YDX taking top place in the UK
section. Having dominated this series of 160m contests for a few years
GM3POI suffered poor conditions and slipped to 4th place. The top four
scores were very close and the 2nd 1.8Mhz contest has the potential for
being an exciting event. Ron Stone wins the Somerset Trophy for the
leading UK score.
In Section B (Overseas), the winner is F/G4BJM closely followed by
EI5DI.
Thanks to all who took part, and I look forward to seeing you for the
2nd RSGB 1.8Mhz contest on 20th November 2010.
