Radio Society of Great Britain. Official HF Contest Results Results - 1st 1.8MHz Contest 2011 |
This year saw an increase in UK participants, in part because the Contest Committee introduced SSB and Mixed Mode sections. This change was generally welcomed in what has been traditionally a CW contest. The Dutch PACC multimode event always helps to increase activity. Several UK competitors took advantage of the mixed mode section to increase their overall score, despite the UK licensing conditions which restrict operators SSB power to 32 Watts above 1850Khz. Congratulations to G4FNL who took the lead in the mixed-mode section. G0IVZ was the leader in the CW section. MW0ZZK achieved 144 contacts on SSB to be the first winner in this category. Non-UK entries remains strong, and S57DX was the winner in the mixed-mode section. EI5DI was first in CW, and DB2B took the lead in the SSB category. Only a few of the top UK stations logged the fleeting DX openings that occur during this contest, G3LDI & G6MC worked VK6ANC at around 2150z, G3LET worked six JA's between 2126z & 2156z. 5N7M was worked by several. The UK entrants who called it a day before midnight should rest assured that conditions to North America in the last hour were not favourable. Check logs are gratefully acknowledged from DF0UK PA0RBA RA6YDX YO6HSU We look forward to seeing you in the second RSGB 1.8MHz contest, 19-20 November 2011. SOAPBOX: DF3OLI used K3 and 43m endfed wire. This year a bit late for beginning.. cuagn Jurgen DF4PD Again together with an other contest difficult for overseas... But I like this contest DK3UZ RIG RX SSSH29 (Siemens E311b)TX VFO-BU-DR-PA 5W out (Johnson Viking Ranger) AER 80m Guywire Pyramid fed via open-wire line and remote controlled balanced pi coupler KEY Vibroplex "Anniversary" Jablonski FM32 sideswiper DK8NI IC 746 Inv.-Vee for 160 m @ 10 m DK8NT Great start, log filled rapidly, saw a QSO rate of 225 Qs... but after one hour and 32 Qs I had to try running, as usual with little success. (Still couldn't make up my mind to switch to SSB.) S&P-ing I worked all stations which I heard, plus 4 when running. Again using 100 W with 6 m high helical vertical (http://www.k6mm.com/antennas/160M.pdf). Thanks for the nice event! DL2ZA TS850S - 2x195m Dipol Huehnerleitung EI5DI SD WinKey K3 EW8OW Tx-ft897 ant-delta G0BWC/A Most UK stations weak. EU strong but unworkable Used SD for the first time live. Missed some details... because as a single op I'm too slow. More practice! G0GDU FT1000 with 35W into W3DZZ @ 29ft agl - antenna worked better on top band than thought possible G0IVZ Nice to be back in this one again UK activity seemed down. G0LZL dipole at 70',100w at antenna.very enjoyable evening, operated from Stockport club site at Rainow WAB SJ97. G0MTN Brief tune of the band before going to bed. Worked all of the G3's and G4's I could hear. G3GMM TS520S + 96ft end-fed wire up 20ft. As I have been inactive over the past year radio-wise found the contest enjoyable and lively from the start with good conditions generally and just a little QSB. G3KKP Variable conditions throughout the contest. Very congested CW section ! G3KLH Ilike the new format with many more stations to work G3LDI My noise level was S-3!!!! Couldn't believe it. I even worked a JA VK6 G3LET Quite a good opening to JA but at the expense of much from W/VE. The band seemed empty for much of the time and it was easy to find a slot. Missed some easy country mults and had a tough time on the last half hour. Should have tried mixed mode! G3LIK A lot of people missing this year Some good conditions for inter G working Quite a few Europeans coming through too Difficult when the QRO peole come and sit next door G3PDH Conditions seemed quite good but score was slightly down on last one. Good job the PA contest was on otherwise would have been slow. G3RFH Quite a rush at start but soon quietened down. Seemed to be a shortage of G stations. G3SJJ Had yet another Winkey crash and lost 20 minutes in the 1st hour ie about 30 Qs. The SSB section was not well supported snd didn't work. Activity was well down after 2 hours so I went to bed! K3 Acom 1000 Dipole at 57ft. G3SVL Have missed the last couple of years due to business travel - good to be back. Decided on a CW-only entry. Overseas stns represented 60% of my QSO's! First Stateside called in at 22:12; nice to work TJ & 5N too. G3TBK Good thing that plenty of overseas stations took part. Worked a few more than last year. Strong sigs from USA and Canada but not enough of them! FT1000MP + 400w Amp "Inverted-L" at 75 feet G3TXF Just trawled across the band a few times to pick up the CQers. G3UFY RIG - FT1000MP (+ 811H amp on CW) ANTENNAS - 20' circumference tuned loop for RX Marconi for TX Noise never less than S9 on main antenna (London sucks!) S&P only. Sri to those I duped ... mods to H/B logger to cope with mixed modes didn't work as expected !!! Will be sorted next time. G3VFC IC756 Pro III Antenna 60feet sloper from shack to tree-top fed against a random wire on or just above ground: L-match power 15dBW For the first time I made no technical preparation for a contest - only to clear the debris on the bench to find the rig... still can't find a logging programme which betters a piece of paper (for this small number of contacts). Would really appre ciate meaningful RS(T) reports. G3VYI Quiet band for a change but no W's Just afew Asiatic and VE3ZZ on my ant! Didnt try the SSB bit perhaps next time! Lots of PACC to work. G3WRR No fun in trying to pull signals out from S9+20 TV barff! So I worked the ones easily copiable above the noise then went to watch TV. G3XYF Not many stations on G3ZGC I had visitors so only a brief appearance. Too much noise here to do well. The new cw bandwidth is too small. It would be better 1810 to 1850. G4AFS Rather slow going towards the end but still a few contacts to be had...Great fun yet again.. G4BYG Enjoyed the contest. My very temporary TEE aerial (80m doublet with feeders shorted) seem ok,although not good for breaking into S&P scraps. K3 400w and N1MMLogger software. G4EBK 100W to inv vee dipole 30Ft ctr. G4FAL Tried an inverted V at about 70 feet. Not a huge improvement on my usual low dipole. Bravely resisted the option to go over to the dark side. G4LWB Noisy but good activity G4RCG Started great for the first 90 mins then gradually died off, last hour was the usual hard slog. Conditions were quite good but not many USA stations heard. Ten Tec Orion II Dipole at 60' G4TSH Some nice DX about poor around the UK. Rig FT5000 Amp and top loaded 60ft vertical. G6UBM Interesting evening tnx for qsos G7DDN Just came on to give points away for a couple of hours. GI4AAM Working PACC at the same time. Some difficulty with serial numbers. Senior moments crept in. GM4UBJ I had base loading problems this time so I started and finished early...the moral of this story being if it ai nt broke dont touch it ! Bill GM4WZG Ant was installed at home QTH just for the duration of the contest. An end fed bent 80ft wire. Single bent counterpoise 6 ft AGL. Very hard work with compromise antenna and an old IC706 (12db rx attenuation not enough for this contest!) but very enjoyable all the same. My thanks to everyone involved. GM4ZUK Good fun but last hour or so got somewhat slower. CW only - SSB should be a separate event perhaps? GW4BLE Just a token one-hour entry; 160M antenna not the best for inter-G working. GW4EVX Very enjoyable contest. More Non-UK stations worked than UK stations! LB9RE Hari 160 m Windom TS-2000 ACOM-1010 M0TES Most Non UK stations did not give serials Most non UK stations gave local district indicator instead Non UK station district indicators not shown in Cabrillo Log M0XXT Good fun but went very quiet after about 11:30pm M1EBV FT1000D SGC230 105' doublet at 15m AGL OK1CZ I started as late as 2223Z and yet I don't think I missed too many stations. With the current number of entrants the contest could easily be 1 hour shorter. RIG FT-5000 and Off-centre-fed 80m antenna 12m up. OK1KZ Rig-TRX TS430S 80W Ant Dipole G5RV OK1RP I missed few G's because of big pileup, low power and strong local noise intruder. K3/100W into half sloper used for TX and W2PM loop for RX beaming to UK. Lot of QRM from PACC unfortunatelly. Best sigs from Jan, G0IVZ. Thank You to all for gentle man party again! OK1TC Contest is too long. After one hour starts fishing in Dead sea for overseas contesters. Compare it with Minitest.ru. It is an other cup of tea. One hour of the real big pileup contesting. ON6LY Just give away some points. IC746, Trapdipole and 90watts. PA1VD Worked during PACC 2011 R1DM Tnx 73! R7AW Tnx for contest! 73! R7FO Rig Elecraft K2 Ant LW RA6XB 73!
