CHANGE FOR 2011 --
Stations outside Europe work Europe only, Stations in Europe work everyone.
The
RSGB
top-band
contests
are
some of the most venerable in the contest calendar. They
are very competitive, with DX often available. 160m is a challenging band for antennas and receiving skills.
(1)
The
score from this contest contributes to the RSGB HF Championship for UK
entrants.
(2) General
Rules do not apply to this contest.
(3) Date
and time: 19-20 November 2011, 21:00 - 01:00 UTC. No contest transmissions
must be made after 0100 UTC, and contacts logged at 0100 or later
will be disallowed.
(4)
Frequencies: 1810-1870kHz only. Mode: CW only.
(5) Entries
must be Single-Operator, which means a station operated by one person,
who receives no assistance from another person in operating,
log-keeping, checking, finding stations and other contest activities,
and who does not receive information by DX cluster, packet, telnet,
internet, telephone, skimmer (and skimmer-like technologies) or other
similar methods.
(6)
Sections for entries:
(a) UK, who may contact any other station.
(b) Europe outside UK, who may contact any other station.
(c) Outside Europe, who may contact stations only in Europe (including the UK).
United Kingdom
(UK) in this contest means England (G), Scotland (GM), Wales (GW), Northern Ireland (GI),
the Channel Islands (GJ, GU) and the Isle of Man (GD). UK entrants must be RSGB
members (except for visitors, temporarily staying in the UK), and must
not use special callsigns (for example GB, GX, etc.), nor Special
Contest Callsigns, nor be /MM or /AM.
Europe in this contest means those Entities shown in the
ARRL
countries list having the Continent column marked "EU".
(7) A valid
contact is the exchange and acknowledgment of callsign and contest data.
The contest
exchange must be sent to all stations contacted:
UK entrants - Section (a) - send:
Signal report (RST), Serial number, UK District code
Non-UK entrants - Sections (b) and (c) -
send: Signal report (RST), Serial number
UK District codes
are listed at the end of these rules.
Serial Numbers
start at 001.
Entrants must log
the exchange received from stations competing in
other contests and from non-contestants. Minimum exchange from a
non-contestant is a signal report.
Proof of contact
may be required.
(8)
Scoring and results:
Scoring is 2 points per contact, plus a bonus of 5 points for the first contact
with each UK District, and a bonus of 5 points for the first contact
with each DXCC Country (Entity from the
ARRL countries list) outside the UK.
Duplicate and
incomplete contacts do not count for points, but must be
logged if made.
For scoring
purposes, /AM and /MM stations count as being in their own
country.
Three tables of results will be shown -- for UK stations,
for Europe outside the UK, and for the rest of the world.
(9)
Schedules (skeds) may be made during, but not before the contest, and
using only frequencies specified in rule (4).
(10) Entrants
must operate in accordance with their licence conditions. An entrant
must use only one callsign and only one station. A station must use
only one callsign.
(11) One
transmitted signal only is permitted. The entrant's transmitters and
receivers must be within a circle of 500-metre diameter, or (if
greater) within the limits of the entrant's address. Antennas used must
be connected by wires to the entrant's transmitters and receivers.
(12) In
adjudication, points and bonuses for a contact will be lost for errors
in sending or receiving. Points may also be deducted or entries
disqualified for a breach of the rules or spirit of the contest.
The RSGB Contest
Committee makes wideband recordings of some contests,
and the validity of contacts may be checked by this method for specific
reasons or at random.
The decision of
the Contest Committee of the RSGB is final.
(13) The
log entry deadline is 23:59:59 on 5 December 2011. Entries must be
submitted to
http://www.rsgbcc.org/cgi-bin/hfenter.pl, in Cabrillo
format. Entrants who have logged on paper can use one of these programs to
generate a Cabrillo log in post-contest mode.
Entrants who do
not have access to a computer may send disk or paper
logs to "RSGB-G3UFY, 77 Bensham Manor Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey CR7
7AF, England". These logs must be in time order, and show (for each
contact): Date, Time, Mode, Callsign worked, RST sent, Serial Number
sent, UK District code sent, RST received, Serial Number received, UK
District Code received.
Entrants are
strongly advised to check their logs for obvious mistakes
before submission.
(14)
Awards: The Somerset Trophy is awarded to the leading UK entrant, and
the Maitland Trophy is awarded to the Scottish entrant with the highest
aggregate number of points in the February and November 160m events.
The top three
entrants in each Section will receive
RSGB certificates.
