The
RSGB top-band contests are some of the most venerable in the contest calendar. They
are very competitive, with DX often available. This is a CW and SSB
contest, and QSOs may be made on both modes. The frequency limits align with other European contests
taking place at the same time.
NOTE: Contest Call Signs (SCC) are now allowed in this contest
(1)
The score
from this contest contributes to the RSGB HF Championship for UK
entrants.
(2)
General Rules apply to this contest. UK entrants are permitted to use Contest Call Signs (SCC)
in this contest, if they hold a valid NoV from OFCOM
(3) Date and time: 8-9 February 2014, 21:00 - 01:00 UTC. All contacts must be
completed by the finish time, so contest transmissions
logged at 01:00 UTC or later will be disallowed.
.
(4)
Frequencies: CW -- 1810-1840kHz only; SSB -- 1850-1920kHz only. On SSB,
entrants must keep their "carrier" frequency above 1852kHz.
(5) Entries
must be Single-Operator, which means a station operated by one person,
who receives no assistance including assistance from cluster systems.
(6)
Sections for entries:
(a)
UK:
(i) CW-only, (ii) SSB-only, (iii) Mixed-mode (CW and SSB)
(b)
Non-UK: (i) CW-only, (ii) SSB-only, (iii) Mixed-mode (CW and SSB)
(7) A valid contact is the exchange
and acknowledgment of callsign and contest data.
The contest
exchange must be sent to all stations contacted:
UK entrants send:
Signal report (RS(T)), Serial number, UK District code
Non-UK entrants
send: Signal report (RS(T)), Serial number
UK District codes
are listed at the end of these rules.
Serial Numbers
start at 001. Do not use separate Serial numbers for CW
and SSB.
Entrants must log
the exchange received from stations competing in
other contests and from non-contestants. Minimum exchange from a
non-contestant is a signal report.
(8) Scoring:
Section
(a),
UK
entrants
--
3 points per contact, plus a bonus of 5 points for the first contact
with each UK District, and a bonus of 5 points for the first contact
with each DXCC
Country (entity) outside the UK.
Section
(b),
non-UK
entrants -- 3 points
per contact, plus a bonus of 5 points for
the first contact with each UK District. Non-UK stations contact
only UK stations for points and bonuses.
Mixed-mode entrants may
contact stations twice for points, once on CW and once on
SSB, and a bonus can count twice, once on CW and once on SSB.
Duplicate and
incomplete contacts do not count for points, but must be
logged.
(9)
Schedules (skeds) may be made during, but not before the contest, and
using only frequencies specified in rule (4).
(10) The
log entry deadline is set out in the
General Rules.
Logs must be in Cabrillo
format. Entrants who have logged on paper can use one of these programs to
generate a Cabrillo log in post-contest mode.
Entrants are
strongly advised to check their logs for obvious mistakes
before submission.
(11)
Awards: The Somerset Trophy is awarded to the leading UK entrant, and
the Maitland Trophy is awarded to the Scottish entrant with the highest
aggregate number of points in the February and November 160m events.
The top three mixed-mode
entrants in each Section (UK and non-UK) will receive
RSGB certificates. Similarly, the top three entrants operating CW-only,
and the top three entrants operating SSB-only in each Section will
also receive certificates.
